[TIPS] Leica M lenses on an L-mount body: the Rayqual LM-LA

Rayqual LM-LA adapter: Leica M lens on an L-mount body

Keep your M lenses when you move to L-mount

If you shoot an L-mount body and already own Leica M lenses, the Rayqual LM-LA lets you keep using them. It is machined in Tokyo by Rayqual and is 100% made in Japan. The same collection also covers Canon FD, Nikon F, Contax/Yashica, Nikon S / Contax C (outer claw), Leica R, L39, Minolta MD, Olympus OM, Pentax K, Exakta / Topcon, Deckel and M42 lenses for L-mount.

Two details that matter with rangefinder lenses

  • Light shielding plate. A plate inside the adapter conceals the silver rear area of the lens and the camera's electronic contacts, and reduces internal reflection. Our comparison photo on the collection page shows the difference with and without the plate.
  • Thickness accuracy. The flange thickness of the adapter is finished with high precision so that the infinity mark on the lens and true infinity coincide. The more accurate the thickness, the better the lens's distance scale matches the real focus position, which helps with zone focusing and with night scenes where focusing on the monitor is difficult.

Before you attach a lens

  1. The Super-Angulon 21 mm F3.4 and 21 mm F4 cannot be attached: their rear protrusion interferes with the light shielding plate in front of the sensor.
  2. Use retractable (collapsible) lenses without retracting them.
  3. Set the camera to fire without a lens attached, and focus with the magnified view; the instruction manual for mirrorless mount adapters (PDF) is linked from the product page.

For Nikon S / Contax C lenses, the SC-LA is for outer-claw lenses only; a compatibility list (PDF) is linked from the collection page.
