[TIPS] What is a lens mount adapter, and why Rayqual?
Old glass on a new body
A lens mount adapter is a precision ring that sits between a lens and a camera body with a different mount. Mirrorless cameras have a short distance between the mount and the sensor, so an adapter can make up the difference and let you focus a classic Leica M, Canon FD, Nikon F or Contax lens to infinity on a modern Sony, Nikon Z, Fujifilm, Canon or Micro Four Thirds body. Focus and aperture are set by hand on the lens.
Why the adapter matters
- Exact thickness. If the adapter is a fraction too thick, the lens will not reach infinity; too thin and the distance scale is off.
- No play. A loose fit lets the lens tilt, which softens one side of the picture.
- Dark inside. Internal reflections cause flare and low contrast. Rayqual adapters have a light-shielding plate and an inner wall shaped to cut reflections.
Rayqual, Tokyo
Rayqual adapters are 100% made in Japan by Miyamoto Seisakusho, specialists in lens mount adapters for decades. The workmanship is why we recommend one adapter for each lens you own, so you are not swapping rings in the field.
